Stony Brook University School of Health Technology and
Management presents the PAR FORE initiative. PAR
FORE is an integrated occupation-based gang prevention
mentor program. PAR FORE was developed utilizing
current and best evidence practice in occupational
therapy, cognitive behaviorism, social justice and
psychology. The program incorporates concepts in
environmental adaptability, delinquent resiliency,
self-esteem building, and self-determination, civic
engagement, and community service learning.
Program objectives
- Empower youths to develop a sense of self and resilience
- Develop productive social networks
- Develop skills necessary for anger management and conflict
resolution
- Develop respect for self, family, and community members
- Develop a moral and ethical character, pride, and virtues
- Develop a sense of civic-mindfulness
- Develop constructive behavior – yielding positive attitudes, healthy
lifestyles, and engagement in healthy occupations
